The California Golden Bears is the nickname used for all the 27 athletic varsity programs of the university. The teams are usually referred to as California or Cal in competition.[1]The majority of its teams compete in the Pacific-12 Conference or Pac-12.

The Cal football team plays in Division I college football in the Pac-12. Its current head coach is Jeff Tedford. The team is famous for several memorable college football moments, including Roy Riegels running the wrong way in the Rose Bowl and The Play from the 1982 Big Game.
